Student Spotlight

I produced and boarded this, shot it with Mike Sellers, and completed post production. Kudos to Mike for his fantastic color-correction on this. the blue chair is a secondary color selection. It was yellow.

As you can see, we had challenging conditions and changing restrictions throughout production. We had to alter plans on the fly. But, we managed to capture the essence of what we were looking for. Salenah was amazing.

Sarah Jane’s Story

This is another testimonial-based spot featuring Sarah Jane Morales.

Executive producer, Ashley Turner, wanted a well-produced reality tv look. We wanted to maintain high production value. So Mike and I did a lot of lighting and camera support here. We were able to use the gimbal quite a bit with our new, higher-framerate footage. I married this b-roll with interviews shot at the Heirarchy advertising agency with a GH4 in the foreground.

We just won a Telly award for this one! It’s great to be working as part of a team which, if small, is firing on all cylinders.

Healthcare spot

This one was fun, but challenging. We had the opportunity to shoot in the high-tech surgical room and wanted to take advantage of lighting and camera moves to create a kinetic feel. But the space was tiny.

We used a DJI gimbal attached to a 15’ jib with lighting. As a two-man crew, we utilized some time to pre light. It was pretty tight in there.

I also used some of our older dvcprohd footage by putting it in an After Effects window to juxtapose it with our 4k stuff.

What’s Happening Now.

FMC, a local drilling services company brought me in with Moscarelli Media to shoot and edit some corporate pieces. Mike and I shot some factory footage with the principals as well as interviews. Lots of noise-reduction.

Overview Video

This one was mostly Panasonic. We used footage from both the GH4 and shots from the HPX5000 which we had captured for previous spots. We wanted to create a broad overview of the school and what it does. We lit and staged the graduation shots, using the in-house lighting as well as my led panels and fresnels.

I cut this disparate stuff all together chiefly because to produce a broad overview for such a large institution would be prohibitively time-consuming for a small crew. So, we looked at what pieces we could put together with existing footage we had already shot and what we needed to stage. It came together in about a week.

That’s My Shawty

Just to break it up a little, here is a 1990’s music video I shot and directed for the 25th hour.

This was shot dvcpro-hd with an hvx 200. At that time, you had to use a ground-glass adapter in order to get these new digital cameras to work with 35mm lenses. Ah, the good old days. At the end, the audience is treated to some of my very early motion-graphic work. Sparkles!

I worked with Tyrone Richardson of Chilltime Records previously as director of photography for “Finder’s Keepers,” a comedy starring Laura Hayes and Duffy Hudson.

LSC Online

I wrote and directed this one to promote online learning. It still bothers me that the cinerails jitter so much, but I include it here because it was pretty successful. We brought in thousands of customers and won an American Marketing Association Crystal Award!

We shot in a local coffee shop called Dosey Doe. The honors students were great. All non-actors in a scripted spot.

Get Trained Get Hired.

I produced this once again out of existing b-roll and additional footage Mike and I shot specifically for this piece. It was part of a campaign which included a few of these.

Krista spot

I got a chance to work with the Lopez Negrete agency and the team at Zap Boom Bang as a shooter for this one. Javier was great to work with as director I like his use of detail shots for storytelling. I was second-unit dp and editor. There is a lot of my slow-motion footage in here. Great crew!

Decapitarium

We completed post production on this feature film this year (now available on Amazon Prime). It features Sam Jones (Flash Gordon) and a lot of makeup fx/3-d animation. It was challenging to produce such a high-concept film with our limited budget. I was writer, director, producer, and sometimes dp, editor, animator, etc. We also got to play around with a lot of motion tracking and set extensions.

This is much like my earlier work, “Zombie Cult Massacre,” etc.

SSI Testimonial

We shot a whole day with the Student Success Institute. Mike and I shot the interviews while the b-roll crew, David Potts and Daniel Hererra, shot in an adjacent building. We gathered enough material to produce several of these videos for social media throughout the year.

We had limited time with the students. So, I thought it was prudent to bring in additional shooters. It’s a good thing, because we would have no b-roll.

Also, you can see some of my motion graphics/After Effects work here.

Small Business Development Center

This one is more of a long-format documentary. We wanted to show the services of the center to prospective clients.

We got to shoot barbecue and work in Simone Biles’ gym with more slow-mo.

Space Girl

This is sort of an experimental piece using motion graphics. I wanted to use 3-d and motion capture to create a 2-d animated look. I used Hash, Breckel, and After Effects.
